Aiding agronomy research with the AutoPheno in Iowa (US)
After months of diligent preparation, 3 dedicated 30MHz colleagues have arrived in Iowa to install the AutoPheno. Iowa State University will expand their research opportunities with this innovative 3D image recognition system for crop registration. Developed with the latest AI models it retrieves the best data on seedlings, growth and biomass.
After the AutoPheno was assembled in the climate chamber and the strawberry plants were placed, the first test images already yielded success. When the researchers followed a presentation and dashboard demo, new ideas were immediately generated on how to optimize the use of AutoPheno for research.
“Besides automatically generating leaf area, plant height & biomass, it’s fascinating to observe the plant’s development over time.”
In many research scenarios, the visual aspect of plants plays a crucial role, enabling the discovery of various aspects, including diseases. Currently, a tablet is used to capture many photos manually, leading to inconsistencies between the images. With AutoPheno, all photos and scans are taken under standardized conditions.
We take pride in contributing to research that addresses the agricultural challenges of the 21st century, as emphasized by Iowa State University. What advantages do you see for 3D image recognition in agricultural research?
