Matching temperature to light in the dark season
From August, the daily light in your greenhouse drops by about 500 J/cm² every month. The heating keeps the temperature where it was. That’s when crop balance slips, and you pay for heat your crop can’t use.
In 45 minutes, we show you how to let your temperature follow the light, with steps you can take the same week.
What you’ll learn
- Why the dark season is tricky. Light drops fast, temperature doesn’t. Too warm for the light gives a thin, stretched crop. Too cool gives a thick, heavy one.
- RTR in 1 line. A base temperature plus a rise for every 10 mol of light, and why every grower’s line is different.
- 5 things to do on dark days. None of them need new equipment.
- LED vs HPS. Why LED saves about 40% at the lamp but 10–25% for the whole greenhouse.
- What to measure. Light at crop level, the 24-hour average temperature, and temperature in more than 1 spot.
