Meet horti consultant intern Bart!

November 15, 2024

Say hello to Bart! 👋  He is currently doing his internship as a horticulture consultant at 30MHz where he combines his interest in the horticulture sector with his master studies in Applied Physics. Curious about how Bart uses his expertise in solving scientific and technical problems in horti-business?

Tell us about your favorite project at 30MHz?

The TomatoWorld project is an exciting initiative where various partners collaborate to conduct experiments in a tomato greenhouse. These activities represent groundbreaking efforts to advance the digitalization and automation of horticulture. As part of the project, we test the 30MHz sensors with other companies to enhance the data consultation we provide to our clients and partners.

A few weeks ago, they asked if I would like to help plant some new tomatoes. Of course, I said yes, and spent some time planting the new tomato plants. It brought back some funny memories from my teenage years when I worked in a greenhouse for a few years. I never expected this kind of work to be part of my internship!

What will be the breakthrough innovation in the next 5 years?

My answer definitely aligns with the concept of smart software solutions. I’ve been working extensively with the idea of Digital Twin, which is a digital copy of a physical object or system that uses real-time data to simulate and optimize performance. By utilizing a Digital Twin, growers in horticulture can gain insights into their crops through visualized data, leading to improved growing practices.

Which of the company values do you care most about?

“Innovate to Elevate!”

In horticulture, innovation is crucial for achieving long-term sustainability. A Digital Twin can play a key role in this innovation. By utilizing real-time data from sensors within a greenhouse, smarter and more eco-friendly decisions can be made, which can also be visually represented for greater insight. Ultimately, this will elevate the business, making it more efficient and sustainable.

How can we help you digitise your cultivation process?
Analyse all kinds of information from different data sources such as climate computers, sensors and manual input in a central platform. Improve the production process of your crops, plants, seeds or bulbs together with advisors, distributors and researchers. We are happy to talk to you about which service model is most suitable for your company.
