Data sharing in the Agrifood industry: 3 takeaways

September 27, 2024

Last week, Agrifood | NXTGEN Hightech organized an event on data interoperability at the Fruit Tech Campus in Geldermalsen. The Agrifood sector strives for a more sustainable industry, for which efficient data sharing between parties is crucial. The event brought together a diverse group including growers, food processors and technology providers to discuss key topics related to data interoperability, such as data standardization, smart industry, and data governance.

“It was inspiring to learn how data interoperability is approached across different sectors. This has highlighted both the differences and similarities, encouraging people to think about what is needed to improve data exchange” – Peter Schellekens, host of the event at FME

How 30MHz contributes

Data interoperability refers to the ability to exchange data between devices and systems. In other words, it allows systems, organizations or people not only to work together, but also to communicate and exchange information with one another. Making data “shareable” is at the core foundation of horticulture technologies and digital innovations to scale and create powerful impact.

As a NXTGEN Hightech project partner, 30MHz was asked to share its expertise and knowledge on enhancing data interoperability through the use of data platforms and dashboarding. Lars van der Lely, Innovation Developer at 30MHz, explains that it’s important to establish a solid foundation before diving into data and dashboarding by setting clear goals.

The 3 key takeaways that emerged from the event:

  1. In addition to analyzing data, there is also a need to control processes and systems through a data platform so that immediate action can be taken.
  2. Bringing together different types of data sources can be optimized through standardization across platforms.
  3. The 30MHz platform is an ideal solution for connecting different types of data sources. Beyond climate data, consider machine data, labor data, and energy data.

“It’s exciting to see the incredible innovations happening around data within NXTGEN and how we, as technology developers, have the opportunity—and responsibility—to collaborate and drive the industry toward greater efficiency” – Lars van der Lely, Innovation Developer at 30MHz
